Kansas City Home
The home owners are 20 year clients and this is the 3rd home Karen has done for them. The butter yellows and leafy greens are as unassuming as the couple who lives here. Their vast art collection was of great consideration. They have many paintings by Francoise Gillot, a former mistress to Picasso and later, wife of Jonas Salk.

Family Room (1 of 3) - A view of the family room looking thru to the back hall. Walls are a green shadow stripe wallpaper. Draperies are a taffeta check. |

Family Room (2 of 3) - Another view of the family room. A black and green wilton area rug anchors the colorfulness of the room. The painting is by F.Gilot. |

Family Room (3 of 3) - A corner of the family room shows another Gilot painting and a Cezanne lithograph. |

Family Room to Living Room - Looking from the family room into the living room one can see the use of the same black and green area rug - the painting has age and is from the Taos School. |
|
Powder Room - A view of the powder room with a vibrant tropical paper so suitable for such a small space. The vanity was and antique bow front chest. Although 250 rolls of paper was used - this is one of the few that is patterned....most are merely ground papers with very subtle pattern. |

Master Bedroom - The master bedroom has a Japanese inspired paper. The same greens and blacks were carried from the main living spaces but cranberry was added to the palette reflecting the wall color of the master's study across the hall. |
|
Master Bath - The master bath has a very subtle wallcovering that reflects the master bedroom walls. An antique rug softens the char-black tile floor and the granite counter/shower. |

Hallway - A vignette at the end of a long hall leading to the study and master bedroom - the cabinet is 19th century French from Normandy. The wallcovering starts in the entry and goes down 2 halls - it resembles old crackled plaster. |
|
Dining Room - The dining room showcases another of Francoise Gilot's paintings, done after the death of her husband, Jonas Salk. The host and hostess chairs are done in the same French tapestry as a small settee in the entry. We opted for bare floors in this room for simplicity's sake. The balloon shades are a silk plaid taffeta. |

Kitchen - The original kitchen was completely gutted - the cabinets were finished on site as was the island which picks up the greens of the adjacent family room. The granite is the same as the master bath. The chandelier was from the owner's previous house. |
|
Kitchen / Breakfast Room - Another view of the kitchen / breakfast room featuring an antique French cabinet. |

Bar - A tight shot of the bar which separates the back hall from the kitchen. The walls are covered in Brunschwig & Fils 'bibliotheque' wall paper. The owner's Toby mug collection sits atop the upper cabinets. |
