Her works have been showcased in magazines such as House & Garden, House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens and Architectural Digest, as well as several showings in the Kansas City Star newspaper.

In 1987, Karen received Kansas City's prestigious "Residential Designer of the Year" award for her inventive design techniques and unique style.

Karen is assisted by Jill Heins, a professional interior designer of 10 years, and together they plan to continue their objective of "original design concepts" with the mindset of "complete customer satisfaction."

Karen's Design Experience

Karen first became interested in the design of interiors as a freshman of the University of Arizona. Upon graduating with a degree in interior design, Karen was hired on by W. & J. Sloane of Beverly Hills, California. Her work there caught the eye of David Barrett, one of New York's leading interior designers, who hired her on as his lead assistant. After five years with David, Karen joined the staff of the late Charles Dear, another of New York's top designers.

In 1970, Karen and her new husband relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she developed a more ethnic style of design. In 1973, Karen, her husband and their four-month old son moved to Kansas City, Kansas at which time she was hired by Halls, the retail division of Hallmark Cards. For the next 10 years, Karen worked diligently as lead designer for Halls when her true calling emerged and she left to start her own business: Karen Marcus Interiors, Ltd.
